On April 1, 2015, the campaign to elect a union Trustee to the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) began. Carey Brown is the union candidate for PERS. He is running against management candidates and if the management candidates gain control of the board they are able to make important decisions about the future of the pension.
Voting is simple. PERS members should receive a paper ballot from human resources or a certifying officer between April 1 and April 10, 2015. After receipt of your ballot, you can then vote either by mail, by calling 888–845-2758 or online when the website becomes available from the state.
Carey Brown is the best choice for public employees, because he will work with our union leaders to fight to hold our elected officials accountable to fund our pensions. We all depend on our pensions for a secure retirement — so we need to support officials that will fight to ensure they have stable funding Carey Brown is that official.
Please visit www.njaflcio.org and click on the “Attention State & County Public Employees” banner at the top of the page or go to this link. The deadline to vote is May 19, 2015, so please make sure PERS members in your local are looking out for their ballots so they vote instead of throwing the away. A vote for Carey Brown is a vote to save PERS.
