About

The Union of Rutgers Administrators (URA) consists of approximately 2,500 Administrative workers who have joined the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the largest union of higher education employees, to form URA—AFT Local #1766.

As dedicated professionals, we built a strong, democratic organization in 2007 to protect our rights and demand the respect we deserve at Rutgers University.  A list of job titles included with the URA-AFT bargaining unit at Rutgers University can be found in our union contract.

AFT represents the largest portion of the unionized workforce at Rutgers University (over 11,000 workers) through inclusive member-driven governance at the local level.  Rutgers’ full-time faculty, part-time faculty, graduate employees, and postdoctoral associates along with professional staff and nurses of the former UMDNJ are all represented by AFT-affiliated union locals.

Our peers at New Jersey’s state and community colleges are also AFT affiliates.  Uniting with more than 40,000 professional workers in New Jersey and more than 1.7 million worldwide gives our voice tremendous power.

If you are in the administrative unit at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, Newark, Camden, or offsite, you are eligible to join as a full member of the URA-AFT.
