2018 Election: Kay Schechter

Candidate for Executive Board Member, New Brunswick/Piscataway

Hi, my name is Kay Schechter and I am running for a New Brunswick Executive Board position and would like to continue to work diligently and passionately to represent and support our diverse membership here at Rutgers.  Collectively, we are the union and as a rank and file member who works in our bargaining unit, I understand many of the issues that we encounter during times of change and uncertainty.

I have worked at Rutgers full‐time for 17 years.  I currently work in the Office of Community Affairs, which is currently located on the Busch Campus.  I earned my BS in Marketing from the Business School and a master’s degree in Labor and Employment Relations from the School of Labor and Management Relations.

Currently, I am a New Brunswick member on the URA‐AFT #1766 Executive Board,  chair of our URA‐AFT #1766 COPE Committee, Lead Steward for College Avenue, URA‐AFT delegate to the Middlesex/Somerset County Central Labor Council, Grievance Committee, and member of our contract negotiations team.

I am also involved at the state level with AFTNJ as a URA delegate, Higher Ed VP, chair of the AFTNJ COPE Committee, and member of the Legislative Conference planning committee.

I enjoy being involved in the labor movement and using the knowledge and experience picked up along the way to help our members in their work lives.

Our Union, URA‐AFT Local #1766, continues to make a difference in the lives of our fellow members and most importantly, our union gives us the secure comfort that someone (“us” as union members, stewards, building reps, committee members, elected officers) has “our” backs and our best interests in mind at all times.  Remember, “WE” are the union, all of us!

Vote for Kay Schechter!
