Hi, my name is Kay Schechter and I am running for a New Brunswick Executive Board position and would like to continue to work diligently and passionately to represent and support our diverse membership here at Rutgers.
I have worked at Rutgers full-time for 17 years and 10 months until I was laid off due to a reorganization. I am still on recall hoping to get another fulltime job. I earned my BS in Marketing from the Business School and a master’s degree in Labor and Employment Relations from the School of Labor and Management Relations.
Currently, I am a New Brunswick member on the URA-AFT #1766 Executive Board, chair of our URA-AFT #1766 COPE Committee, Lead Steward for College Avenue, URA-AFT delegate to the Middlesex/Somerset County Central Labor Council, Grievance Committee member, and was a member of our prior contract negotiations teams.
I am also involved at the state level with AFTNJ as a URA delegate, Higher Ed VP, and chair of the AFTNJ COPE Committee.
I enjoy being involved in the labor movement and using the knowledge and experience picked up along the way to help our members in their work lives.
Our Union, URA-AFT Local #1766, continues to make a difference in the lives of our fellow members and most importantly, our union gives us a voice and has been our advocates during the unknown pandemic impact on our lives and work. Remember, “WE” are the union, all of us!
